If you are narrow minded

the whole world will appear narrow to you.

If you are happy and with friends

the world will seem a garden of roses.

Many have gone as far as Syria and Iraq

and seen nothing but unbelief and hypocrisy.

Many have gone as far as Herat and India

and seen nothing but buying and selling.

Many have gone as far as Turkestan and China

and seen nothing but deceit and trickery.

If the traveler is after external sensations

he may travel the world and see nothing of spirit.

If a cow walked through Baghdad it will see nothing

of the delights of the city but the rind of a melon.

But the spacious realm beyond cause and effect

is the abode of God, ever changing and forever new.

Everything, be it Paradise or the rivers of Eden,

becomes ugly when fixed permanently in one aspect.
