The Creche reminds us that Jesus was born in a time of oppression by the Roman Empire

Bill McGee and I purchased our Creche in Palestine's West Bank during our visit in 1995. We stayed in Old Jerusalem at the Austrian Hospice for three weeks and spent our time following some of Jesus life path. On Christmas Eve we walked to Bethlehem (about seven miles) and arrived around 1:00 AM. After visiting the Creche in Bethlehem, we celebrated mass after the main event was completed. A very moving spiritual ritual.

While in Israel we also visited Palestinian families. One family had already lost quite a bit of their land with olive trees which they depended upon for their livelihood. I imagine by this time, their home is gone also.

The Creche reminds us that Jesus was born in the time of oppression by the Roman Empire and it continues today reminding us that the Palestinians live under Israeli oppression. Jesus spent his life teaching us what we must do.
