Word from St. Patrick's -- please read the contract!

Dear Sisters and Brothers: Yesterday I received the letter/contract we've been waiting for from St. Patrick's. Please take a look if you have time. I've attached copies in PDF and WORD formats as well as copying it into this daily reflection.

The long and short of it:

- They're asking us to pay $4,000 per year for the use of the hall. That adds up to roughly $166 per liturgy (24 liturgies per year). In the past we paid $150 per liturgy.

- They're asking for a general liability insurance policy that covers the use of alcohol with St. Patrick's as a named insured. We've had that for years.

- We don't sell alcohol nor do we serve alcohol to underage people.

- We don't smoke

Here's the note I received from BobbieJo Maggard yesterday:

I hope all is well with you and everyone of the Emmaus community!

I apologize for the long wait, it's been something else!

Attached to this email is a new agreement we came up with. With COVID happening, we are using this opportunity to begin fresh with those who use the church.

We have revamped our agreement so please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

We are kindly asking for an increase of $1000 a year bringing it up to $4000. I looked back in our records and saw Emmaus' payments to us during COVID so we can credit you $1000 for this year.

Facility Use Agreement:

§ St Patrick’s Church reserves the right to refuse rental of buildings to organizations and persons who are not in sympathy with St Patrick’s principals & values.

§ There is a $100 refundable deposit fee that will be given back if the facility remains in the same condition and if the church key is returned.

§ Renter must obtain and or maintain General Liability Insurance of at least $1,000,000 which St Patrick’s Episcopal Church is listed as “additional insured” party. You must provide the parish office with a certificate of Insurance prior to the event. Doors will not be open if the office does not receive the certificate.

§ You agree not to charge any fees for anything you do on St Patrick’s Church campus.

§ Please DO NOT SHARE or MAKE COPIES of the church key.

§ Please leave the areas in the same condition you found them.

SHARED SPACE: User understands Saint Patrick’s is multi-use space with frequent access by staff, members, and the general public. Although we will make every effort to provide dedicated space for your event, User understands that parish employees and volunteers may on occasion, with discretion, need access to space.

OCCUPANCY INTERRUPTIONS: Saint Patrick’s may need to preempt a scheduled use of the facilities. In this case, the Church will provide the User with at least thirty (30) days written notice of such preemption. If, for any reason, the facility is deemed unsafe, or if any circumstance such as war, acts of God, power outages, etc. shall render the Facilities Usage Agreement unfulfillable, the contracted event may be canceled by Patrick’s. Saint Patrick’s will not be held responsible by the client for any damage or loss caused by rental event cancellation and is relieved of any liability.


§ NO SMOKING on church property at any time.

§ If there will be alcohol during your event, you must obtain a day use alcohol license or make sure “Host Liquor Liability” is included in your General Liability Insurance.

§ All applicable federal, state, and local laws should be obeyed, including those governing the serving of alcoholic beverages to minors.

§ Alcoholic beverages and food containing alcohol must be clearly labeled as such

§ Whenever alcohol is served, non-alcoholic alternatives should always be offered with equal attractiveness and accessibility of the event.

§ The service of alcoholic beverages at church or church sponsored events should not be publicized as an attraction of the event. Alcohol should also NOT be SOLD at events.

§ The group or organization sponsoring the activity at which alcoholic beverages are served must have permission from the church for this plan. Such groups or organizations must also assume responsibility for those persons who might become intoxicated and must provide alternative transportation for anyone whose ability to drive may be thus impaired.

§ Please park in designated church parking spaces only.

§ User is responsible for getting out and putting away furniture and equipment.

§ Please clear tabletops. Please set up and put away building’s furnishings with care.

§ Spills should be sopped up immediately to avoid stains.

§ Please notify the church of any breakages or spills.

§ The cleaning service fee is $275. Please write cleaning service on the check memo line. For ongoing users the service fee is annual.

§ A refundable deposit fee of $100 will be given back if the hall, classrooms, bathrooms, kitchen, and or other areas used remains in the same condition. The church key also needs to be returned. Any infraction of this agreement may result in loss of security deposit, denial of further use of the church premises, and/ or cancellation of this contract.

We have read and agree to abide by the terms and conditions of this agreement to keep and maintain the church property and good name in the condition as found, to maintain the security of the premises and all equipment, furniture, fixtures and valuables, allowing no unauthorized person(s) to enter or use church property and to remove any church property and to remove any property brought into the church when the rental period is over.
