813: Bob and Nancy take to the open road adventure of Alaska

Day 813: Tuesday, June 7, 2022

Give Nancy and Bob a rental car and a place to visit and they're off on an adventure. This time to Alaska

Afoot and light-hearted I take to the open road,

Healthy, free, the world before me,

The long brown path before me leading wherever I choose.

Henceforth I ask not good-fortune, I myself am good-fortune,

Henceforth I whimper no more, postpone no more, need nothing,

Done with indoor complaints, libraries, querulous criticisms,

Strong and content I travel the open road.

- Walt Whitman

“There is an ecstasy that marks the summit of life, and beyond which life cannot rise. And such is the paradox of living, this ecstasy comes when one is most alive, and it comes as a complete forgetfulness that one is alive.

- Jack London

The earth, that is sufficient,

I do not want the constellations any nearer,

I know they are very well where they are,

I know they suffice for those who belong to them.

- Walt Whitman

It’s from an Aleut word, Alyeska. It means ‘that which the sea breaks against,’ and I love that. -John Green

The light in Alaska, in particular, is so beautiful. So beautiful! Such incredible light.

- Sebastiao Salgado

It’s not like Alaska isn’t wilderness – it mostly is. But most Alaskans don’t live in the wild. They live on the edge of the wild in towns with schools and cable TV and stores and dentists and roller rinks sometimes. It’s just like anyplace else, only with mountains and moose. -Tom Bodett

Thank you Nancy and Bob for sharing your adventure and amazement.
